Hats, Hats, Hats!!!
Everyone LOVES hats! As Stephen Jones puts it 'a hat is the cherry on the cake'. To celebrate the world of hats, the V and A are holding an exhibition, HATS: An Anthology by Stephen Jones 24th Feb - 31st May 2009
'Stephen Jones began his career on graduating from St Martin's School of Art in 1979. Since
then he has produced hat collections twice a year under his label 'Stephen Jones Millinery', while also collaborating with some of the most prominent fashion houses and designers of our time, including Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, Thierry Mugler, Christian Dior, John Galliano, Comme des Garcon and Marc Jacobs.
As part of the exhibition the V and A are holding a 'Mad hatters' late nigh event 27th March . Rob Ryan has designed the hat above as part of the parade.
'As you can see I'm no hat maker and the major rule for me was to keep piling on until it looks done. It's supposed to be a pill box mourning/funeral number hence the 'turning on the water works' veil!!!' (Rob Ryan)

Kate Leake - Illustrator
Now I am slightly bias with this one. I spent three years studying with Kate. But I hope you can see just how darn talented she is!
Not only does she create the most detailed and fun quirky illustrations for children, she also writes incredibly witty tales for them too. 'The Big Chip' happens to be my favourite (purely for memories sake). The reaction to Kate reading out the first draft of her little 3rd year master piece was pretty spectacular!
'My style combines hand drawn and computer techniques, and I love designing fun and lively characters. I also love doodling. It's the tiny scribblings that can lead into bigger and exciting things.....' Kate Leake
